Frequently asked questions

What is MDCAT?

MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) is the standardized entry test for medical and dental colleges in Pakistan. Conducted by PMC/NMDCAT annually, it's mandatory for MBBS/BDS admissions.

How is MDCAT merit calculated?

Standard formula: Matric (10%) + FSc (40%) + MDCAT (50%). MDCAT is out of 200 marks. The aggregate determines your position on merit list for admission to medical colleges.

Minimum MDCAT score for medical college?

Minimum passing MDCAT: 60% (120/200) for public, 50% (100/200) for private. For top public colleges (KEMU, AKU, KMC), need 85%+ aggregate. Cutoffs vary by year and province.

What's a good MDCAT score?

150+ (75%): decent. 170+ (85%): good for public colleges. 180+ (90%): top public colleges. Over 190+ (95%): top 3 medical colleges in Pakistan.

Can I retake MDCAT?

Yes, you can attempt MDCAT multiple times. Some students take a gap year to prepare more thoroughly. Academy preparation (Star Academy, Step, KIPS, ENT etc.) helps significantly.

Top medical colleges in Pakistan?

KEMU Lahore, AKU Karachi, KMC Karachi, FJMC Lahore, NSMC Islamabad, AMC Multan, RMU Rawalpindi, DUHS Karachi, BMC Quetta, KMU Peshawar. Each has different merit cutoffs.

Difference between PMC and NMDCAT?

PMC (Pakistan Medical Commission) replaced PMDC. NMDCAT is the national MDCAT under PMC. Some provinces (KPK, Sindh) had separate tests previously but now mostly unified.
