Frequently asked questions

How to calculate percentage?

Three common types: (1) X% of Y = (X/100) × Y, e.g., 20% of 150 = 30. (2) X as % of Y = (X/Y) × 100. (3) % change = ((New-Old)/Old) × 100.

How to find percentage of total?

Divide part by total, multiply by 100. Example: scored 75 out of 100 → 75%. Scored 750 out of 1100 → (750/1100) × 100 = 68.18%.

How to calculate percentage increase?

((New - Old) / Old) × 100. Example: salary increased from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 = ((60-50)/50) × 100 = 20% increase.

How to calculate percentage decrease?

Same formula. If result is negative, it's a decrease. Old: 100, New: 80 → ((80-100)/100) × 100 = -20% (i.e., 20% decrease).

How to add tax/GST percentage?

Original × (1 + tax%/100). For Pakistani GST 18%: Rs. 1000 × 1.18 = Rs. 1180. To remove: Rs. 1180 / 1.18 = Rs. 1000.

How to calculate marks percentage?

(Obtained / Total) × 100. Example: 850 out of 1100 = 77.27%. Used for school/college results, exam scores, and merit calculations.
