What is a leap year?
A leap year has 366 days (instead of 365), with February 29 added. Rule: divisible by 4, but if divisible by 100 not leap unless also divisible by 400. So 2000 was leap, 1900 wasn't, 2024 was, 2026 isn't.
Why do we have leap years?
Earth takes 365.24 days to orbit the sun. Adding a day every 4 years compensates. Without leap years, calendar would drift by ~25 days per century, eventually misaligning seasons.
How many leap years are in 100 years?
Usually 24-25. Every 4 years would give 25, but the 100-year rule removes some. From 1901-2000: 25 leap years (incl. 2000). From 1801-1900: 24 (1900 not leap).
Born on Feb 29 — when do you celebrate?
Officially birthday is Feb 29 only on leap years. In non-leap years, most people celebrate Feb 28 or Mar 1. Legally, Pakistani CNIC handles this — usually shows Feb 28 in non-leap years.
