Car Loan EMI in Pakistan: How Instalments Are Calculated
Your monthly instalment (EMI) = P ร r ร (1+r)^n รท ((1+r)^n โ 1), where P is the financed amount, r is the monthly rate and n the number of months. Most Pakistani bank car loans are priced at KIBOR plus a spread and re-priced periodically, so instalments can change when the State Bank policy rate moves.
- EMI depends on amount, rate and tenure.
- A bigger down payment cuts both EMI and total interest.
- Shorter tenure = higher EMI but much less interest.
- Add insurance, tracker and processing fees to your budget.
How tenure changes the cost
Rs. 3,000,000 financed at 15% a year:
| Tenure | Monthly EMI | Total interest |
|---|---|---|
| 3 years | Rs. 103,996 | Rs. 743,855 |
| 5 years | Rs. 71,370 | Rs. 1,282,187 |
KIBOR-linked pricing
Banks usually quote "1-year KIBOR + 3%" or similar. When KIBOR is re-set on the anniversary of your loan, your instalment is recalculated for the remaining months. If rates fall your EMI falls, and if they rise it goes up โ so leave room in your budget.
Before you sign

Frequently asked questions
What is a good EMI-to-income ratio?
Many lenders want total loan instalments to stay below roughly 40โ50% of net monthly income; keeping it lower leaves room for rate rises.
