Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the due date calculator?

The calculator uses Naegele's rule (LMP + 280 days), accurate within 1-2 weeks for most pregnancies. Only ~5% of babies are born exactly on due date — most arrive within 2 weeks before/after.

What is EDD?

EDD (Estimated Due Date) is when your baby is expected to arrive — 40 weeks from your last menstrual period. Also called 'expected date of delivery' or 'guess date' since exact timing varies.

When was conception?

Conception typically occurs ~14 days after LMP (during ovulation) for women with 28-day cycles. For longer/shorter cycles, conception date adjusts accordingly. The calculator factors this in.

Why does cycle length matter?

Standard formula assumes 28-day cycle. Longer cycles (32 days) mean later ovulation, so due date shifts later. Shorter cycles (24 days) mean earlier ovulation. Adjust cycle length for accuracy.

Should I rely on this or ultrasound?

Ultrasound dating in first trimester (8-13 weeks) is most accurate. If your LMP-based and ultrasound dates differ by more than 1 week, ultrasound is preferred. This calculator gives an estimate; consult your doctor.

What if my baby comes early or late?

Term: 37-42 weeks is normal. Preterm: before 37 weeks (need NICU care). Late term: 41-42 weeks. Post-term: after 42 weeks (induction usually offered). Most births occur 38-41 weeks.
